A little foraging

As I have mentioned previously, I really like the times when a dog walk yields something other than exercised dogs and people. As a result, this time of year is very satisfying, assuming that I remember to take a clean bag or container:

Blackberries

Blackberries

Now, we just have to pick as many as we can before all the hedges are cut back!

Isn’t it a fabulous year for fruit? I just got in from collecting pounds of wild plums. Before that it was bilberries/whortleberries and before that, raspberries. I haven’t really got going on the blackberries yet, but the few I’ve picked on my walks have been enormous and so sweet. What are you going to do with yours?

  2. Funny I was about to write a blog about blackberries too! Picked a big bag yesterday. Been picking for a few weeks now and still plenty of unripe ones coming for future picking. Stacking them up ready to mix with 2013’s prodigious apple tree produce! x

I’ve never tried it but it ought to be delicious! I just uploaded a picture of the cashew berry ice ‘cream’ if you want to see before you try ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. I think you should find another subject to blog on now before I drown in my own drool. Especially hard on me was the mention of bilberries which in my part of the country ( when I was still young and naive about food) were called wimberries/whinberries. I used to love turning my ccustard blue. Now I’m just blue remembering custard.

  7. We normally have an abundance of both blackberries and damsons in our immediate area but, for some reason, this year has been a bit bare of both. I guess it’s time for hubby to get out his walking stick with the hook, and ramble along the hedgerows in search of some less local fruits ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the idea of bilberries and custard – heaven! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • The recent rain here seems to have really brought the blackberries on – I saw loads on our dog-walk today, but didn’t have time to stop and pick as I had so much editing work waiting at home ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
