There be dragons

Well, 2015 is turning into a year of dragons – two so far and a third in the planning stage (well, I have the yarn).

The first you already know about: a dragon neck warmer. The pattern is adapted from the one in the book Crochet Ever After. The person it is for was not sure about the snout, so I made some changes. This was made entirely from New Lanark wool in blueberry, black, limestone and iris. It’s all completed now and it on it’s way to its new home… it appears that it is going to be called Jan!

The second dragon (which was actually made first) has finally reached its recipient and so I can reveal it:

This is a Fierce Little Dragon, who has travelled all the way to Tasmania with a story all of his own (written by Mr Snail) to live with Fran and Steve on Serendipity Farm and be the Guardian of Sanctuary. Originally, the idea was that I would make some bunting as a decoration for Sanctuary, but it turns out that bunting is particularly uninspiring… especially when you have a burning desire to make a dragon! This is one more of my Random Crafts of Kindness and was an idea cooked up with Pauline, The Contented Crafter (see her post here)… apparently she wasn’t inspired by bunting either!!

So, after these two, the next one has to be a proper Welsh dragon…

  3. The other two are proper Welsh dragons too, born in Wales! By proper, do you mean red and rather spiky? They’re both great fun, and I look forward to seeing how ‘mae draig goch priodol’ will turn out!

  4. Oh, ho, ho! That is so very wonderful!! Our Aussie mates are going to be over the moon with this little beauty – as long as Earl doesn’t eat it! 🙂

Now I’m wondering about a swap – one original mixed media painting recently completed for one aqua and white [sea] dragon? 🙂

  9. I so love the dragon you sent to Serendipity Farms. He’s adorable and I understand they are keeping him out of Earl’s reach. Pauline has such a wonderful heart to want to spread the kindness around the world. Yes, I can understand how bunting would NOT be your thing. But then I never make things easy on myself. 🙂

    • I am in awe of the bunting you sent! I was going to crochet some (as sewing is not my favourite occupation) but triangles are much less interesting to crochet than dragons, so I branched out! And anyway, every sanctuary needs a guardian 🙂

      • Absolutely! I loved the dragon. He should do a good job of keeping the pests at bay. I hope she liked the bunting. I made it from oilcloth to be outdoor worthy. Now that was a bugger to sew.

I can’t wait to see what your Welsh dragon looks like once it’s done, though 🙂

  11. So lovely, can we say dragons are cute? I have just bought a pattern to make a Dinosaur from african flower hexies and I can’t wait to get started, especially now I have seen your dragons.

  12. I adore my little dragon and Ms Pauline is right when she said that Earl would be MOST interested in him. He is safely tucked up in my craft room where no Earl’s are allowed! Thank you for that gorgeous random act of kindness supported by Mr Snails lovely story. I love both of them as well as your beautiful and most photogenic dogs 🙂
