Looking at recent posts, I realise that it’s a while since I wrote about anything yarn related. There are two reasons for this. First, I was making something that I didn’t want to reveal until it reached the recipient and since I only posted it on Saturday, it’s going to be a while before it gets to the other side of the world. However, it was a playful project and so I will just tease you with a sneak preview:

And, second, I didn’t want to bore you with more of the same, as I’ve been making more scrunchies and dishcloths to add to my stock for sale. However, I have also crocheted a jumper for Mr Snail’s friend Auguste (more on this in a future post… possibly from him not me) and I have finally come to terms with my button needs.
For some time now I have been waiting for some buttons to be made for me. I’ve waited and waited, but they have not been forthcoming. So, last week I bit the bullet and looked for an alternative source. I had a few requirements: they couldn’t be too heavy, and I didn’t want plastic, metal (Sam chews metal) or wood. So, finally, I settled for some beautiful shell ones. These have arrived and so I’m now completing my sofa cushions (the first phase of covering my sofa). I’m not ready for the grand reveal on this project either because there’s quite a bit of construction yet to do, but here are a few details:
Much of my time has been taken up recently preparing teaching materials, but I’m hoping that I will have a bit more opportunity for creativity in coming weeks.

/ April 13, 2015When our Aunt died at 104 years old we found a box of buttons that have been keeping me going for the past 25 plus years. If the garment had reached it’s “point of no return” I took the buttons of and recycled the garment as waste. Sadly most of the buttons have gone for ever now but it was great fun while it lasted.

I adore your sofa do-over and cannot wait for the big reveal! It is my inspiration every time I think I need to get a sofa for my flat and re-home my white cotton covered chairs. [Which is a think I have quite often!] I’m so sorry your original button plans did not work out, but the shell buttons are an inspired choice too! I hope Max does not develop a taste for them!

The ladies in the post office were most amused at my answer of ‘a dragon’ to there question about the contents of the parcel. I assured them that he is very well-behaved and would not spontaneously combust!

/ April 13, 2015Those shell buttons are enticing for a magpie like me. I love shiny things and they set off your cushions beautifully. I just finished my sisters 50th birthday lacy spiders web creation (pashmina) and she received it intact (not always the case with our postal system 😉 ) I have half of another shawl made that I am going to use as a Facebook give away “just because it’s winter” and I am halfway through making Stevie-boy a pouffe. Make of that what you will! 😉

I love shell buttons, and have some still that my mother had collected from old clothes, other people and who knows where. Every so often, I will grudgingly use some of these treasures. On the other side of the coin, I have a couple of large bags of assorted buttons of modern vintage into which I dive to find something unusual – all the buttons on my earlier Happiness quilt came from this. From which you will gather that I also have a bit of a button habit…
