There was a tiny plant that I forgot to mention yesterday in my post… because it’s so small it’s easily overlooked. I am hoping, however, that it will thrive in the limery. It is my Lithops:
Teeny tiny living stone
It’s less than 1 cm across. I’m hoping that its move from the windowsill in my work room to the limery will encourage it to grow a bit. It’s got an even teenier companion too:

These were grown from seed. I did have more germinate but survival was not good. In fact one grew to about half a centimetre across before it popped… a sad demise. Anyway, I am carefully nurturing these two remaining plants and keeping my fingers crossed that they flourish in their new location.

/ August 5, 2015The ones I bought at Kirstenbosch last year ‘popped’ after they had flowered. Popped not really the right word – they sort of collapsed in on themselves….. 🙂

/ August 5, 2015I love these little guys! There are so many different kinds you could make a mosaic with them. Here in the states you can often find them at nurseries that sell cactus, although they are not part of that group. They do require similar care, sandy soil and light watering. Congratulations on getting it to grow from seed, it’s not easy. 🙂

/ August 6, 2015Oh, I love these. I used to grow them and they would have these amazing metallic blossoms and then a new plant would rise from the center as the old one split away and dried up. After they reached a certain size, they never got bigger. With the limery, you could have a whole colony of them–and they come in different colors, some with translucent tops. I haven’t thought of these for a long time. Good luck with them!
