Three Things Thursday: 7 July 2016

Joining with Nerd in the Brain (and others) for Three Things Thursday’. As “Nerd” says…

*three things that make me smile: an exercise in gratitude – feel free to steal this idea with wild abandon and fill your blog with the happy*

First, soft fruit – possibly my favourite harvest from the garden. Specifically I love raspberries, still warm from the sun. What’s more, the surplus can be frozen and brings a wonderful taste of summer to dark winter days. Right now, though, we are enjoying them with home-made ice cream (using eggs from the garden). I’ve also been picking red currants – ruby gems that add a bit of zing to recipes. I think a cake combining the two is in order.

One day’s haul

Second, Blacker Yarns. Having decided to make a felted version of the bird roost, I went on the wonderful Blacker Yarns’ website and was able to find a suitable British wool in perfect colours almost immediately. Not only that, but it was delivered less than 24 hours later. Hurrah for well constructed web sites and great customer service.

Just the job

Third, swapsies! I’m just in the process of bartering some of my knitting for some lovely yarn. How fabulous is that?

So that’s it for this week. What are you feeling grateful for?

  1. We have masses of red currants. Our raspberries are all later varieties though so we have got to wait a bit for them. Love the look of that yarn. x

  2. I’m grateful for the life of a friend who died 3 days ago. She enriched the world with her presence. I’m grateful for friends of all kinds everywhere, new and old. I’m grateful for my wonderful soft and cosy Australian rabbit/possum/merino wool socks on this cool winter’s morning!

    • Condolences on the loss of your friend, I hope that you have joyful memories (as well as warm toes)!

      • She was a vivid, wise and gifted individual and I feel diminished by her loss, but she was, I think, quite ready to go. She was tired and in pain behind the smiles.

We have red currents too, plus peas, potatoes, gooseberries and strawberries. Think we need a bigger freezer…

    • I do find it difficult to choose three things each week… and I’m trying very hard at this time of year for them not all to be about what I’m harvesting from the garden!

  6. It’s nice to feature three things that you’re grateful for. And I see no reason why you can’t share your harvest, too. It’s that time of year when those of us lucky enough to have a garden have many things to be grateful for.

Today I’m grateful for my juicy garden tomatoes. I’m grateful for the time to walk with a good friend and her dogs and I’m grateful for my comfortable bed.
