Three Things Thursday: 17 November 2016

As usual I’m joining with Emily of Ms Emily’s Home for Full-Grown Nerds (note her new blog) and others for Three Things Thursday. As she says…

*three things that make me smile: an exercise in gratitude – feel free to steal this idea with wild abandon and fill your blog with the happy*

First, African flowers. I’m very fond of this granny square pattern and I’m greatly enjoying making these for my latest Sixty Million Trebles blanket; they are also using up lots of oddments.

Second, the magic of putting green tomatoes in a box with apples and them coming out ripe a couple of weeks later. I hate green tomato chutney, so turning green tomatoes red at this time of the year means they will actually get used; indeed the ones from the box are those pictured in the roasting dish, which is currently in the oven.

Third, Sugru. This magic creation has saved many items in our household from the dustbin. This week I’ve made a fourth mend (the one in pink) to my favourite headphones. Obviously, it would be better if such things were built to last, but since that is not the case, Sugru will always have a place in our house.

Can you spot all four mends?

So, those are three things making me smile this week – what about you?

  1. OMG! You have just opened up a whole new world to me! Sugru – I never knew ….. Already my mind has turned to all the things I can mend, but also all the creative possibilities!!! Another absorbing obsession awaits! ❤

  2. I didn’t know about Sugru either–how cool is that? And I love your granny flowers–so cheerful.

    • I can no longer live without Sugru!
I’m a bit surprised about the amount of bright acrylic yarn oddments that I have – I almost never buy the stuff, so all of this must have been given to me, but I just don’t ever seem to be able to use it up, however many blankets I make for charity. At least the flowers give me a way of using small oddments, as the centres only take a very little yarn.

  3. This week I made my first ever steak and stilton pie and with left over pastry made apple turnovers, heavily laced with cinnamon. Those made me really smile! I had a mention like you on The Tangled yarn blog, which made me really happy and best of all beloved in the middle son asked his partner to marry him and she said Yes.

  5. Looks like we’ve all learned a lot today. First off, love the granny squares. I once made a throw of them but have no idea what happened to it in all the moves. Had never heard of Sugru nor the tomatoes ripening with apples. This is a good day indeed. Learned something new. 🙂

  6. Happy to be a Sugru convert already; a small pack of it lives in my fridge door permanently. Happy to learn about apple ripening – i’ve always used bananas for the same purpose, which works well (especially with avocados), but glad to know apples will do the job too. Happy also to have made a decision about something that’s been bothering me, and to know in my gut it’s the right thing to do 🙂

    • It’s funny how putting off a decision or task often makes us uncomfortable… and how actually choosing or doing can be such a relief in the end. Talking of which, I have several chores than need doing and that I have been putting off…
