Today I planted the first seeds of the year.
- Two types of chillies: Pyramid and Romanian Yellow
- Two types of sweet pepper: Corno di Torro Rosso and Sprinter
- Two types of tomato: San Marzano and Veepro Paste
They are in the propagator and I have my fingers crossed for fabulous harvests in the limery again this year.
The labels are made from old milk cartons and are in their second or third year of use; the modules and pots I’ve owned for years; and the compost is made in England from wool and bracken.
When the rest of the world gets me down, sowing seeds always brings a smile to my face.

You don’t know how they’re going to do, but you have high hopes, and you cross your fingers they’ll turn out well and get good results! I’ve sown nothing this year, but the other day I noticed a volunteer courgette or pumpkin (too early to tell yet) emerging from the compost pile around the base of my palm trees 🙂

/ January 28, 2017I’m a little worried I might have jumped the gun, but I trust the limery, plus they are cosy in my dad’s propagator, which served him well and now is doing a sterling job for me too.

/ January 28, 2017I think it must be fabulous to have a Limery and to sow seeds before winter is done. Who wouldn’t find joy in this? The only thing growing well in the tiny courtyard this summer is the Boston Ivy which is trying its best to strangle the house! 🙂

/ January 28, 2017We grow San Marzano too. I found last year that as peppers take so long, January seemed too late (but we don’t have a Limery… yet….). We sowed the toms in Feb and they bolted – ditto reason. So they will be sown in march this year. Maybe next year, when the Peach House (yes, we have adopted the name) is built then we can try earlier toms. 🙂
