Three Things Thursday: 2 February 2017

*three things that make me smile: an exercise in gratitude – feel free to steal this idea with wild abandon and fill your blog with the happy*

Inspired by Emily of Nerd in the Brain here are my Three Things Thursday…

First, adventures in pie-making. My latest trip to the library yielded two interesting cookery books, both pie-focused; and, as you can see, I’ve already tested out one recipe (Scotch egg pie).

Second, a knitted fish. This arrived in the post from Nana Cathy, along with a lovely letter and three crochet squares to add to one of my charity blankets.

something fishy!

I love this fish so much, that I’m going to gently remove it from the card it’s on and do some freeform crochet round it so that I can incorporate it into my next friendship blanket (a long term and very slow project).

Third, my store cupboard. Last week we ran out of sweet chilli sauce – disaster since it’s the condiment of choice with lots of meals (omelette, roast veg, fishcakes, Scotch egg pie). However, it turned out, that I had all the ingredients to make a new batch in my stores, including homemade passata, my own bottled apples and frozen whole home-grown chillies. The sauce is good, and will be better in a couple of weeks… and making it was so satisfying.

So, those are 3 things making me smile this week – what about you?

  1. Thank you for the mention. I am so glad the letter arrived and made you happy. I am thrilled you are going to use the fish for such a wonderful project. That pie and the sauce look so good. I am glad I have just put some split pea soup onto cook or I would be feeling food envy.

  4. I love that fish. Isn’t she a clever lady? And the chilli sauce….yum.
My three things? Getting back to yoga after the holiday break. Added to that is picking up my friend to take her too. It is the only time we get to chat, so we caught up on all of January’s news. My third thing has to be oil pastels. i am really enjoying creating with them this week. 🙂

    • Lovely – I have friend like that, we used to go to a get-together once a month and I used to collect her and we’d spend the half hour in the car chatting. She moved so that she wasn’t en route for me and now we never get the chance to have those sorts of conversations – such a shame.

  5. I love that fish! What a charming gift. I’m so happy to read that it will be incorporated into another project as well. The gift that keeps on giving.

I’m smiling at the kitty asleep at my feet. I’m also happy about the return of the rain. Further, your blog post made me smile. Thank you.

  6. Someone at work lent me those exact same books last week! I can recommend the Hairy Bikers lemon meringue pie, and the breakfast hash one, alongside the scotch egg pie.

  7. What a great idea that pie is – Hubby loves my vegetarian scotch eggs, and I’d never thought of making a pie out of them, so this will be something I’m going to give a try next time I’m able to 🙂
I love the fish, and think it’ll make a wonderful addition to your friendship blanket – so what’s the theme with this one then?
That sauce looks good – I’m glad you had all the ingredients to hand – what a wonderful saving 🙂
