*three things that make me smile: an exercise in gratitude – feel free to steal this idea with wild abandon and fill your blog [or Twitter account or Facebook page or diary or life in general] with the happy*
Inspired by Emily of Nerd in the Brain here are my Three Things Thursday.
First, tomato futures. The limery provides such great growing conditions that my first tomatoes are appearing already. I see lots of passata in my future!
Second, potting-up. Every day now I am spending a bit of time potting up plants: lemongrass, peppers, melons and summer purple sprouting broccoli in the past few days. There are also seeds to be planted and surplus plants to be given away.
Third, working from home. Almost all my work these days is done from home. It means there’s no commute and no dress code, but best of all, it means I can intersperse my day with coffee, homemade biscuits and crochet in the limery.
So, those are three things making me smile and that I am grateful for this week. What is making you happy?

/ May 11, 2017I love the look of that pile of crochet squares. It shouts happiness to me. As for me I am happy because once again the sun is shining and the days are getting longer, the bluebells in my garden are in full bloom and oh so pretty, and I successfully knitted a heart cable pattern on the front of the latest offering for my grand daughter.

/ May 11, 2017Oh, well done with the dreaded cable!
I am ever so fond of little granny squares – I love the diversity and the fact that they are a great way to use up yarn, even if there is only a little bit. I’m especially pleased that the 60 Million Trebles project is now accepting blankets of all sizes, so I can just keep making squares until I have used up all this cotton yarn and make them into whatever size blanket they create.
Haven’t the bluebells been lovely this year. On our walk the pub last night we saw a hedge full of bluebells and stitchwort, which looked stunning in combination.

/ May 11, 2017all those sound really good. I’m just about to have my first go at you GF rolls – getting the psyllium husk took a little while, but I’m all set now and I’m lunching with a GF friend tomorrow and I thought sweet buns would be a good contribution.

/ May 12, 2017They’re nice and quick to make. The chief thing is not to worry about the soggy, pasty texture of the dough. Just portion it out, quickly form the dough balls and plonk it on baking paper and into the oven 🙂 I have my fingers crossed for you!

/ May 13, 2017Great success! I made them with added dates, coconut and a little maple syrup. I was very impressed by the texture – a tiny bit rubbery, but I might have slightly over-mixed – I’ll be a little more gentle next time.

/ May 13, 2017Yes, a gummy result is over mixing. But they’re open and fairly airy, much more breadlike than most recipes. Now, try the bread version, without fruit, cinnamon or sugar, but with half a teaspoon of salt and a handful of seeds – great with butter and cheese!

/ May 13, 2017I will do. I was impressed with the lightness and they are so easy… great for days when we’ve run out of ‘normal’ bread too!

/ May 12, 2017I love your term “tomato futures.” That made me smile. Your tin of homemade biscuits has my mouth-watering. Oh my they look good. I look forward to your three things Thursday. It’s always a treat. I’m grateful for the warm kitty snoozing at my feet. He is such a comfort. I’m also grateful for my prolific garden, which is colorful and fragrant. The neighbors stop to comment on my “jungle” and I’m giving away flowers by the fistful. I’m grateful for all the love in my life.
