OK, OK, everyone else did their ScrapHappy posts last week, but events conspired against me and mine did not happen. That is not so say that I haven’t been working on a scrappy creation, just that it didn’t make it onto the blog.
In fact my current scrappy project is a continuation of one you have seen before – a blanket using old crochet squares and unwanted yarn given to me by Wild Daffodil. It has progressed from this:

and on to this by the beginning of this week:
The outer squares and the edging were made from wool left over from some of my old projects and some from Freecycle. And I thought that might have to be it, as I’d almost come to the end of my brown/beige/green scraps. But, no! Someone in the 60 Million Trebles group has a load of old cones of wool and other 4-ply scraps and oddments and these are now on their way to me, so that this can be made into a full-sized blanket. I am really enjoying this collaborative effort and hoping that eventually it will keep someone warm and let them know that there are people in the world who care.

I never would have guessed you could create something so eye catching using mostly browns and neutrals! I hope you will remember to show us the bigger, completed version in due course 🙂

/ June 23, 2017I rather like not being able to plan because I don’t know what’s going to arrive. Sandra’s original squares add some colour, but it is surprising how well it has turned out with all these other dull colours.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart – those bits had been sitting unloved for years – the brown 4 ply of my Mum’s – well that might have come from the 1960s and you have given it all life and love and then that energy carries on to give comfort to others – I’m thrilled and amazed and delighted. Magic has happened across decades, across the miles and soon possibly across cultures. Welling-up here! ❤

/ June 23, 2017Love the blanket. Our scrap happy? How about the builder puts a skip on our drive. He pops by every so often to put things in. We get home and oik them out!
So far –
2 gates that will repair compost bin & provide wood to make 2 beds.
2/3 tonne quarry waste (we actually intercepted this before it went in)
1/3 tonne ballast (ditto)
2 bags 10mm gravel (also ditto)
2 half bags sand
A dozen semi circular type ridge tiles, complete with algae & moss (animal shelters)
Half a new fence panel
A hardwood pallet (firewood)
Various bits of wood offcuts (firewood and a frame for keeping allium leaf minor off leeks)
20 old block paving blocks (raise a small wall in veggie area by 1 course)
Small slab (went to a customer’s to widen a path)
Bits of slate
Assorted Peach House left overs – gutter, down pipe etc.
3 tonne bags
There are some breeze blocks and bricks kicking around too that will ‘vanish’ before he skips them…
Now if only we could find a use for the 2 concrete lintels that are surplus to requirement….
Although we want our drive back, I will be quite sorry to see the end of these ‘resources’. 🙂

/ June 24, 2017I had a rather difficult time last week and I was a bit sad that it had stopped me doing my scrappy post, hence putting it in 8 days late! Anyway, I’m now awaiting a parcel of yarn to make this blanket even bigger… I’m rather looking forward to seeing what the delivery will hold. So, in the mean time I have started on a sock, since that’s one of my 17 for 2017 goals that I haven’t made much progress on.

/ June 28, 2017the multi-coloured squares in the middle and the dark brown wool were given to me by Wild Daffodil. The yarn was from her late mother and the squares were originally intended to be a poncho – a project long since abandoned. I promised to make a blanket for refugees using her contributions and whatever other yarn I had. I really love making things like this – several contributors and all for a good cause.
