My weekly exercise in gratitude – three things that are making me smile – feel free to steal this idea with wild abandon and fill your blog [or Twitter account or Facebook page or diary or life in general] with happiness.
First, crashed out dog. We went to visit Mama Snail on Monday to celebrate her birthday. A great time was had by all including the dogs. Sam gets rather over-excited by going visiting and made me smile by spending the whole of Tuesday like this:
Second, courgettes. The plants have grown hugely and we are about to harvest our first of the year… all grown on waste (paper, cardboard, old compost, grass clippings, kitchen scraps).
Third, black Hungarian chillies. My friend Ann gave me this plant and it’s now laden with chillies. I can’t wait to try them, especially having read this link sent by another friend, Gary.

they turn red when ripe, but are delicious when black too
So, those are three things making me smile this week. What is making you happy?

/ July 20, 2017Love your tired but happy doggy photos.
This week I am happy because the weather has cooled down slightly and I have a sleeveless top in Liberty fabric half finished on my work table and it looks like it might be a successful, wearable garment. Hoorah!
By the way, I just found your ‘Instagram Husband’ video share – hilarious! I don’t ‘do’ IG but sometimes I find myself taking unnecessary photos for the blog – I have taken food pics in a restaurant, for example, but then come to my senses and don’t actually use them 🙂

/ July 20, 2017I don’t do Instagram either… photos for the blog are enough, and I do try to make those ‘honest’. I really hope your sewing project turns out well… I seem to have wasted quite a few pieces of fabric in recent years 😦

/ July 20, 2017Love your courgettes and chillies. Today I’m grateful for our cold rainy winter weather, and also grateful to have my own roof and warm bed and pot of soup.

/ July 20, 2017I always try to be thankful for a roof when the weather is cold and wet. So many people in this world don’t even have that, which is something that most of the time we take for granted.

/ July 20, 2017Love the dogs, they have the right idea!
Today I am grateful that 3 of our 4 customers don’t mind us missing today as it is raining (the 4th is deaf, so I can’t ring her – will pop round and tell her).
Your courgettes look good. Ours not so much. They always seem to get battered when we plant them out, plus as they are one of the latest crop to go in, they often only get the odd corner here & there, which I think are too dark for them. So growing them under sweetcorn? Nah, too dark. 🙂

/ July 20, 2017The courgettes seemed to sit around doing very little for ages, but have suddenly burst forth. I am going to have a dedicated squash and courgette bed from now on!

/ July 20, 2017I’m grateful for a chilly night (for us, anyway!) made comfortable by quilts and hot waterbottles, I’m grateful for good medical insurance when I need it, and I’m grateful for Chocolat Frey 69% cacao dark chocolate. And that’s just for starters. I’m grateful for lots of things right now 🙂
Those black chillis are magificent, they should be heroed somehow in some beautiful dish. They’d look amazing stuffed with goat’s cheese, for example.

/ July 20, 2017I was toying with the idea of stuffing some of them… it does seem a shame to hide them in a dish where they are simply flavouring.

/ July 20, 2017Exactly! You must tell us if the flavour differs because of the unusual colour. I bet they’d smoke well – I dearly love a dried, smoked Ancho chilli to zing up a simple dish.

My three things this week are that I made my first Etsy sale, I finally got a scan on my injured knee, and we had a day of glorious sunshine on Tuesday 🙂

/ July 20, 2017Well done on your etsy sale… I’m always delighted to have one and I really must put more stock in my shop!
Yes, the chillies are supposed to be hot, but apparently the flavour changes as they ripen and I haven’t actually tasted any of them yet.

/ July 20, 2017What a lovely three things. Love the tired dog pictures. I am grateful this week, for an afternoon doing nothing but sitting in the garden, enjoying the sunshine and a good book, that yesterday the sun came out again for half an hour and I planted out Mr E’s favourite dahlias and today it rained and gave them a good soak, and finally for Mr E who has a significant birthday coming up.
