Food, glorious food

… all homegrown…

All photogaphed today (25 July) in (or recently harvested from) our garden and limery. Never let anyone tell you that you need lots of land to grow your own food. Our garden is about 6m ×20m, including the limery, and it’s still not fully utilized!

Oh, nice!!! How much land do you have to grow all this food?

Lovely pictures! Yes, it’s true what you say – you can do a lot with a small area. Our garden is 13*13 m and we have an allotment of only 4*2 m and it’s amazing what we can do in such a small area.

    • I think people get put off by only having a small spce, but actually I think it’s a lot less intimidating than having hectares to choose what to do with!

Yes, that’s true. And a lot more managable as well. We have time left for other things besides the garden in summer, while others seem to be a slave of their garden…

  5. Not just useful and productive, but beautiful too. I’m wondering if you can freeze bags of grated courgette for the winter, to add to soups and make courgette bread when there’s not a lot of green available. Mr Snail may not be so averse once it’s out of season 🙂

    • You can grate and freeze, but it gets a little mushy…okay for breads, but I’m not sure it would b that great (haha) for soups.

      • I’d be using it to increase the vegie content of pasta sauce, etc, so a bit of mush would come in quite handy 🙂 Maybe dehydrating would be the go…

  18. I absolutely loved this post. I, too, am fond of homegrown food and in my 5x5m garden I’ve got courgette, carrots, onion, peas, beans, beetroot, tomatoes, chives and a huge amount of herbs and spices. It isn’t fully utilised either as 3×3 is grass!
It is amazing what one can do in a small space if you but want to.
