My weekly exercise in gratitude – three things that are making me smile – feel free to steal this idea with wild abandon and fill your blog [or Twitter account or Facebook page or diary or life in general] with happiness.
First, the house is full of wood. Tim has arrived to start installing the cupboards; there is the sound of sawing and drilling in the kitchen and soon there will be loads of space for all my preserved food.
It’s a good job we have a long hallway.
Second, successful cheese. Yesterday we sampled a cheese made in January and I am very pleased with the result. This is a Tomme-style cheese and quite straightforward to make (for a hard cheese). It is not pressed and has developed a good texture and flavour – I will be making lots more of this.

Third, cooking from the garden. I shared pictures of our crops the other day and some of them have already been consumed. I am always happy to cook things that I have grown myself.

/ July 27, 2017I’ve been doing it for about two and a half years, but only seriously for the past year when a local farm started selling raw milk. Having good quality, fresh, unprocessed milk has made a real difference.

I’m grateful for warm, dry weather, for finishing one quilt and being ready to start work on the next one without having to buy anything, and being thrilled with my new haircut, which is short and spiky and I think makes me look 5 years younger, always a bonus 🙂

/ July 27, 2017I haven’t heard of ‘Tomme-style’ cheese before – but it looks pretty good 🙂 Your practise is obviously really paying off now! Yay for the garden supplies and the new cupboards- it all makes me happy for you 🙂 I purchased some very large wood panels yesterday from the DIY store and that has made me VERY happy. Soon a very large painting will begin it’s process – but not until two commissions are completed and two lost watercolour and ink sketches are found …… I was obviously more stressed by the weather than I realised 🙂

/ July 27, 2017We had a couple of dry days then it started raining again yesterday and is still at it this morning. The council advertised that it would be collecting all the sandbags that were distributed a week ago if people left them at their gates. I’m thinking not too many would be prepared to let them go yet ….. 🙂 I have no clue what I did with those two sketches – they were on my last blog post – the pensive girl sketch is propped up on a shelf and the two daisies have completely vanished. I spent three hours – three hours! – yesterday going through every possible place and there is no sign of them. I never lose things normally. Am I going bonkers?
