Three Things Thursday: 10 August 2017

My weekly exercise in gratitude – three things that are making me smile – feel free to steal this idea with wild abandon and fill your blog [or Twitter account or Facebook page or diary or life in general] with happiness. This week, it’s all about the future…

Happy memories of past holidays – looking forward to making more

First, holiday planning. I’m currently in the process of sorting out some trips away over the next nine months (I do like to plan ahead), including a holiday to Scotland next year that will involve seeing another blog-writing friend who I’ve never managed to meet in person before. The trip is also going to include a visit to New Lanark – a place I’ve wanted to go for several years. Although the planning is time-consuming, the anticipation is really making me smile.

Soon there will be shelves here

Second, getting organised. Tim is due to arrive tomorrow to install the shelves above the new cabinets in the kitchen. This will mean that all the cookery books can come out of my work room, and I can clear my work table of all the sewing things that have accumulated there because their shelf-space is otherwise occupied. It will be good to be able to use my sewing machines again… especially looking at my  (lack of) progress on the sewing-related items on my 17 for 2017 list. I’ve alrerady started filling the new cupboards in the kitchen, but I can’t really get them sorted out and everything in its new home until all the work is complete.

Looking forward to seeing these two soon

Third, meeting people. Over the next six weeks I have all sorts of get-togethers arranged, from a birthday tea party on Saturday, to teaching a friend to use WordPress; from a family lunch to a big Sixty Million Trebles meet-up in Birmingham in September; not to mention a training course with some smallholder friends and my monthly shared lunch with some of my permaculture pals. Writing this, I realise that all these events involve food in one form or another, so I’m doubly happy.

I know that I should enjoy the present (and I do), but it’s lovely to have so many good things to look forward to. Do you have any plans that are making you smile this week?

Emily of Nerd in the Brain originally created Three Things Thursday, but it’s now being hosted by Natalie of There She Goes.

  1. I think you’ve exceeded your ‘three things’ this month. 🙂

  2. For me looking forward to something is a big part of its enjoyment, and there is at least one thing on your list that I am looking forward to myself!

No wonder you are smiling! So many wonderful events rippling out for you. (Wish we lived closer so that we could meet!) And I do believe we can enjoy the present while planning for the future.

  4. So many wonderful things in the offing. We have a dinner with a difference in September, a new baby for the family and one son has mentioned the C word!!

I’m just grateful it has stopped raining!

  6. Well, it’s raining again here so I can’t say I’m grateful for that – there’s an excess of water that we may be glad of though if the summer arrives hot and breathless and dry 🙂 I’m working on a blogger party set for late February here, which I’m very excited about. My kitty is well again as I changed up his diet so the diagnosis of ‘feline dementia’ was incorrect – so many illnesses are caused by food additives and food-like substances in humans it shouldn’t have amazed me that it transfers to our pets – but it did.

Your plans all sound very exciting and fun – so glad all these good things are happening for you!

  7. Wonderful plans! I can feel your happiness from here, and I can hear your excitement about getting things sorted on the shelves. 😉 My forward planning is a trip to Japan at the end of the month!! Yay!

  8. I’m thankful for a couple of small rain showers (we need rain badly, the farmers are worried), that my temperature has finally come down and the flu is somewhat improved (although the cough is a killer), and I’m thankful that a recent visit by officers of our motorbike touring club to inspect Mackay as a venue for next year’s national rally went off brilliantly – now all I have to do is LOADS of organising :-/

  9. Oooh, you’ve certainly for a fun few months ahead! This week I’m looking forward to catching up with my blog reading (been a bit hectic in Beastie Towers lately) and getting some serious crafting done on Sunday 😀 Have a great week!

  10. I do love planning visits to friends and holidays, they are so much fun! I’m am planning on visiting my family after I go to a contente in September and it makes me really happy since I haven’t seen a lot of them for over a year

  11. I love travel and planning and travel planning and I also love meeting up with bloggers, so I can relate to your joy. I’m so excited to see the shelves installed, and I know you’ll be happy to have all your cook books organized once again. I enjoyed this happy post.

  12. Oh, good for you! I love this concept – Three things Thursday – and I had to smile when I saw the cute girls in their (this is still so hard for me to say) pink pussy hats! I have several friends with them (my New Hampshire friends live free!) and I was given the pattern, but had no time to knit one. I had to resort to a Raspberry Beret. 🙂 Good memories.
    But now to the future!
