Apple time

Yesterday we went to pick apples just down the road…

since then the kitchen has been a hive of activity…

There was a little time yesterday to do something that didn’t involve apples. I made harissa paste with some of the abundant chillie harvest…

We have an apple mountain here too. Been storing the good ones in newspaper in cardboard boxes and freezing the not o good ones.

  5. What a lovely colour that juice is. You can easily imagine the fresh flavour, instead of the syrupy ‘cooked’ taste of that brown commercial stuff….

  6. You’ve been busy! Mr C’s dad has 3 apple trees on his allotment and we’ve ‘helped’ him out by using a few. It’s been a good year for fruit by all accounts, at least here.

    • Despite a weekend of apple-related activity, the kitchen is still full of them! But I do have bottles of juice, jars of stewed apple and an apple crumble too. The hens have also been enjoying the lest-overs from juice-making.

  10. Mmm, yum! Did you add other fruits to give your juice that lovely pink colour, or is it just the species of apple you used?

  11. YUM! Although I’ve gleaned tons of blackberries and plums around my neighborhood, I’m yet to find an unsuspecting apple tree to add to my fruity stores. And I forgot to pick up apples from the farm stand yesterday, so another week goes by without being able to try out that apple bread recipe you sent. Sigh…hopefully next week I’ll remember.
