17 for 2017 – November Update

November has been very quiet with respect to 17 for 2017. Here’s progress so far:

These were a real hit with Rachel who works in the Post Office

Seventeen… little random yarny/sewn gifts. Two this month and the remaining four all either done but not sent or in the planning stage.

Sixteen… batches of homemade biscuits. This goal is complete.

Fifteen… cheeses.  This goal was completed in October.

Fourteen… pairs of knickers. None this  month, so the total is still six, but I think that a concerted effort soon will see this one achieved before the end of the year.

Thirteen… mends. Target reached in May.

Twelve… letters to friends. Target reached in June.

Eleven… new items in my Etsy shop. Complete and more than exceeded now that I’ve got into the habit of doing this. And I’m delighted to say that sales are slowly increasing too.

Ten... plants given to good homes. Target reached in May.

Nine… we don’t talk about nine

Eight… meals using only our own produce. Target reached in September.

Seven… visits to see “social media” friends. Target reached in September

What do you think, Sam?

Six… Pairs of socks knitted, using at least three different patterns. One pair completed this month and the final pair well on it’s way.

Five… book chapters written. None yet, but I have a plan for next year.

Four… blankets for charity; knitted or crocheted. Target reached in February.

Three… sessions in the loft, sorting out some of the accumulated ‘stuff’ up there. Still two. I’ve spent time sorting more things out and now all the glassware is in the new cupboard in the kitchen and sorted, so I consider this one achieved.

Two… patterns published and on sale. I failed to get on with the second pattern again this month, so still just one.

One… gardening apron. Completed in April.
So that’s it for now. If you have a 17 for 2017 blog post or an update on your progress, do leave a link in the comments.

    • Some of them have been smash… I’ve lost count of the number of batches of biscuits I’ve made. In fact one of the things that 17 for 2017 has done has got me into the habit of doing certain things – the baking is one, but the other big bonus has been that I am now regularly listing in my etsy shop and so I’m getting regular sales.

      • I’m glad you stuck with Etsy–persevering and regular listings seem to be important in their algorithm–it’s quite fun when it starts to pay off!

        • I was a bit daunted to begin with about the advice on the ideal minimum number of listings, but now I’ve got there and I’m trying to post a few things each week or two, it feels much more manageable.

  6. Have you thought about the possibility of publishing a book of your favourite/memorable blog posts? I am sure there are readers out there….

  7. I congratulate you on achieving so many of your goals, and ahead of time! I am reluctant to set myself goals like that, because inevitably I’ll fail to achieve things on the list while I chase off after new things and ideas…

    • Well now, that’s part of the problem. I have been thinking a lot about this particular activity over the past few weeks. At the end of the year I’m going to write a post reflecting on it and with some thoughts about 2018. For now, I will say that I’m not going to do 18 for 2018!

You have almost achieved everything and still a month to go. Well done. I am almost afraid to look at my list as i will be falling short on quite a few! Love the red socks!

  13. That’s pretty impressive considering the list of goals you set yourself – I hope you’re feeling suitably smug?! The red socks are to die for, by the way.

  14. Nine made me snicker! Congratulations on achieving the majority of your goals. It’s amazing when we write things down how much more likely they are to come true.

  15. Love your red socks. I’ve started knitting again after nearly 40 (!!!) years and really enjoying it. My partner has asked me to knit him some socks. My first reaction was ‘you’re kidding me’, but your post has inspired me!

    • I have to confess that when Mr Snail told be he wanted some long welly socks my heart sank, but in the end they were fun to make and the fact that it’s aran yarn meant that they grew quite quickly. In fact I’m in the process of making him a second pair now.
