Long-term readers know how long the project to make a complete set of covers for my sofa has been going on. However, it recently received a boost when I bought more (thicker) wool supplies whilst we were away on holiday and I started making progress once more.
The work-in-progress at the moment is the cover for the seat cushions. I have decided not to make separate covers, but to make a single piece, which will be easier to hold in place and will also prevent the migration of crochet hooks, scissors, knitting needles and biscuits down the cracks (there’s never any spare change heading that way!). So far I’ve managed about half of the top, made from join-as-you-go squares. Here it is… and a ‘mock-up’ of what it will look like when it’s done combined with the existing parts.
It’s quite hard to show the colours… the limestone grey always comes out looking rather washed-out and the subtleties of the other colours don’t really show, but you get the idea. I’m planning to stitch it onto some cotton fabric to ensure that it holds it’s shape through the rigours of being sat upon.
Unfortunately, however, work has ground to a halt. The UK is currently basking in glorious sunshine and it’s far too warm to be underneath a thick woolly creation. I’m focusing on smaller and thinner things instead… including this month’s scrap happy make (just completed). Nevertheless, I’m pleased that this section is at least started. No doubt it will be cold soon enough and a wooly cover whilst I’m working will be not welcome.

/ July 2, 2018Now you know I’ve been lurking about waiting to see this unveiled – and I’m very happy! The colours are the best choice possible – they won’t be shining every little smudge of dirt back at you and the kaleidoscope of blue related colours is a visual feast! I know how frustrating it can be trying to photograph colours – the camera seems to want to bland them down into an homogeneous whole – I’ve found it almost impossible to get the true colours of the Persian. Now that I think of it, having Orlando in the frame seems to help – stick Sam or Daisy on the couch 🙂 And the cotton backing is nothing short of genius! I’ve learned so much this morning and first coffee isn’t finished yet! I’ve heard you are enjoying lovely warm summer days, enjoy!

/ July 3, 2018I’m so looking forward to getting this finished… once this piece is completed, I will make some covers for the arms and a piece to cover the bit at the front below the seat and then it will be done.
The colours thing is irritating – these wools are not flat colours and all of them except the darkest blue have lots of interesting extra colours in them, but they simply don’t show up. Once I’ve made a bit more progress, however, I will try a photoshoot with Sam and Daisy(although it’s quite difficult to get Daisy to sit still)

/ July 5, 2018That bottom right photo looks like one of those optical illusion pictures, it’s doing funny things to my eyes! The colours look fab on here so they must be amazing in real life. I love how the colours all match but you haven’t done the same pattern for everything, all different but still working together and looking beautiful.
