Mend It Monday #12

As my friend Sarah says “If it’s not worth mending, it’s not worth buying” …

Over recent weeks my mending pile has started to grow again, so I’m back to sharing my mends on  Mondays. It’s an old favourite this week – darning socks.

The purple one has never needed darning before, but there was a hole in one side of the toe and the other side was getting weak and needed reinforcing. The other pair, has been darned many times and for the latest mend I chose to use grey wool. You can see an earlier mend in the mauve. I rather like doing each mend in a different colour as it highlights the process and demonstrates that it’s possible to mend a number of times before giving up on a sock.

So, have you mended anything this week? If you’ve written a post about mending recently, do share a link to it – I love to see how other people manage to extend the lives of the things they own.

  1. That is some beautiful darning. I mended some old gardening shorts, that are at least 20 years old – there is nothing beautiful about them, but they live on – that’s the main thing!

    • I really can’t believe how much I’m enjoying darning… I used to hate it so much. I wonder whether it’s because I’ve got better at it and so it’s easier.

  2. I mended the waist band on some pjs this week! Boring and not very pretty but practical.

  3. I’m not sure sewing on pants buttons counts, really. I have to do it so much because the thread and button have not been invented that can stand up to the Husband’s testing combination of high pressure and rough treatment… I don’t believe you need a photo to understand what I mean, either!

  4. Your darning is so neat! Mine is ‘functional’ at best. Nothing mended this week, but progress made on our patio refurb – which is way more involved than it sounds.

  6. I’ve only needed to sew beads back in place recently, so nothing of note to show 😊
