Because I haven’t been writing very often, I have rather a lot of projects to share. I know that I’m likely to finish some more ScrapHappy things before October, so rather than end up with a queue of posts, I thought I’d share this now…
One of the projects at the Crochet Sanctuary last year was a cotton rug in a kit from Hoooked. The company produce yarn from recycled or reused materials, in this case Zpagetti – a “t-shirt yarn” made from selvedges and remnants. So, whilst the yarn was new to me, it was definitely scrappy. I managed to complete about half of the project during the sanctuary weekend, but it was then put to one side and I never got round to finishing it… until now.

I should note that the kits contain just one colour, but we did some swapsies during the sanctuary, and so I had a ball of dark blue for the edging.
Once the rug was completed, there was a bit of the yarn left over, so I made a doubly scrappy storage basket – perhaps I should use it to store even more scraps.

/ September 18, 2020Excuse me for butting into your conversation – I taught myself this year. I had a couple of books, but the thing that made the difference was Bella Coco on Youtube. Really clear, slow and uncluttered tutorials. It took me a while, and I have had to do A LOT of unpicking, but I chose a modular project (Natures Walk – get the packs from Black Sheep Wools and the (free) pattern from Ravelry I think) The blanket has a variety of patterns, from the really straightforward to slightly more complex, but all are quite simple, and because it’s modular, it’s easy to unpick and redo without being disheartened. I’m loving it so much.

/ September 18, 2020Great advice – I didn’t get on with videos when I was learning, but there are all sorts of resources and it’s a case of finding the one that suits you. I have hear other people recommend Bella Coco.

/ September 17, 2020The bowl was just one of those quick makes, where the scraps are to hand. I just made it to use the yarn, but I’m please with how it turned out and might make some to sell from homemade t-shirt yarn.

Never mind, I’m feeling a bit more rug-inspired now, so maybe it’ll make an appearance soon. 5 more squares to finish off Days Gone By… woo hoo!

I’ve been looking at a pile of fabric scraps and wondering about an old-fashioned rag rug… not that I really need one, but it would be a good way to get through a lot of scraps.

/ September 17, 2020I can remember people who made braided rag rugs when I was a child. Lots of those oval braided rugs on wooden floors. Your rug is lovely and the little basket could have so many uses!

/ September 18, 2020I had a phase of making rag rugs a few years ago. Proddy rugs using old sheets and duvet covers on some sacking and some t-shirt yarn I made from holey clothes crocheted then some done on the peg loom which were less successful because the warp threads broke after a while! I decided I had as many rugs as one house needs! I must have a go at a basket with the leftovers – I have made some with wool but not with t-shirt yarn.

of late my scraps are more paper related…actually I need to made some more scraps be a collage or something. As that part of the table is overloaded…and I’m sure there is some green bits down under for the current “garden collage”
