Centre for Alternative Technology

I didn’t think that I was going to get the opportunity to write for a few days, but then it dawned at me that being here at the Centre for Alternative Technology was too good an opportunity to miss in terms of blogging. So, yesterday I had a little wander round to take some photos of the site that you just might find inspiring…

There is so much to see, that I can only give you a flavour of things here. There are lots of examples of renewable energy:

There are ideas for small spaces:

Applied in practice in the buildings:

And there are activities and exhibits galore:

And I even encountered another mollusc:

Plus, my learners have been very busy creating their own display whilst increasing their understanding of ecology:

This afternoon we are off to see the sand dunes at Ynyslas and (hopefully) visit the submerged forest that has been exposed by the recent storms.

If you want to visit CAT, it’s open to the public from Easter and located in the middle of Wales, near Machynlleth. Really, it is well worth a visit.

  1. Bit of a trek for me. I’ll have to content myself with a virtual tour…

  2. What an awesome place to work at! Thanks for the tour through the grounds! It was quite interesting. The photo showing the before and after of the solar roof makes it very apparent that everything starts with a vision. Someone saw a dilapidated roof and envisioned it restored and put to use with a solar panel on it. How wonderful is that?

  4. Some good examples of alternative energy there but what on earth does that homeless snail have to do with it? Is it really trying to peek into the windows of the rooms?

  5. I’d love to visit CAT again, but it’s so far. My new ‘Clean Slate’ mag arrived today, so that’s a bit of consolation. Thanks for the photos.

    • I love having the excuse to come here to teach… and they’ve promised to open the shop for us tomorrow, so I might just be going home with a new book or something 🙂

that was very interesting. My grandparents had a farm with a working windmill that looked like the one in your photo. The exibition looks like it would be great to see.
