Back in the saddle again

I haven’t been writing recently, but I have been doing. So, as a gentle return to blogging, I thought we could catch up by means of some pictures…

I worked on Mr Snail’s scarf:

He says it's not long enough yet

I finished a blanket for the Denmark Farm charity raffle:

I got the lovely feather picture framed:

I bought two new (recycled plastic) compost bins to replace the wooden ones that had rotted in our very wet garden:

Two 330l compost bins

We emptied our dog poo composter…

the content was odourless and the only identifiable ingredient was wood shavings

I made some more scrunchies and gave a couple away (which I forgot to photograph)

I taught an ecology course… creatively

I finished another blanket for the raffle, using squares donated by Jenny from Simply Hooked

I baked cakes, made waffles, roasted vegetables, turned my cheese, walked the dogs, took another huge bag to the local charity shop, tended the chickens and did the day job (scientific editing)… and I made a difficult decision which I then acted upon. So, onwards and upwards…. normal service is now resumed!

  5. So, silent, but not at all still… You’ve been very busy, and we are delighted to have you back. I’m sure you know this, but you can run a special dog poo worm farm as well, so long as you give them some green waste as well. Lots of people don’t realise you don’t have to put the stuff in the bin… Not that we have a dog right now, but I’m looking forward to your post on the subject.

  9. I love the scarf pattern – I think Mr Writinghouse will look most dashing!! You have been very busy – I am always impressed when after a long silence a whole pile of different projects go up and there is all the evidence of a most happy and industrious life! Good job on it all – I love the way you finish off the squares and make anything fit and seem right at home. Inspirational!! The scrunchies are simply lovely! I have one tucked around my ponytail now and look rather dashing if I do say so myself! I’m looking forward to finding out more about the poo too! 🙂

  14. So so glad that you managed to make something from the squares – I think the black border really helps draw it all together. Well done you

  15. And I thought “I” was busy! I made a dead fish hat and a very strange baby hat and have studied like crazy to get on top of my game in the most unfamiliar territory of software mastering. As a natural Luddite it was very hard. Here’s to productive years, turning of cheeses and sharing that dog poo composter post ASAP 🙂

  16. Wow, Jan, you really have been ‘doing’ haven’t you? 🙂

I love the scarf, and I’m pretty sure you can never have one that’s too long!

The two blankets look amazing (and I’ve got a bag of 6″ squares here, if you’d like them to make another one?).

The feather looks even more amazing now it’s framed properly – it’s wonderful, isn’t it? 🙂

I read your post about ‘doganure’ (I love the new word!), and could have done with this knowledge back in the days when we had 9 dogs! Lol

I love the scrunchies, too, especially as these were one of the first things I attempted to crochet when I was first learning how to 🙂
