Sow far sow good

Regular readers may have been wondering about the limery… well, now it’s time to plant seeds, the wide windowsills have come into their own. It’s lovely to know there’s plenty of space to give our crops a good start in life.

Already germinated and growing are broad beans, melons, peppers, chillies, tomatoes, oregano, parsley, sage and salad leaves (we are eating these – they are cut and come again). Planted today were leeks, courgettes, winter squash (five varieties), garlic chives, kale, runner beans, French beans and sunflowers. There are also potatoes chitting and the two citrus trees (one orange and one lime) are growing well and will be good to move outside once the risk of frost is over.

I cannot express how happy I am about all this – everyone needs a limery!

  1. I just remembered your angst when going through the building process – gone and forgotten now and replaced by pure joy. Just as we knew it would be! It looks like a hive of industry in there – just wonderful! I hope you have a better summer than I did weather wise – it became a bit of a non-event down here………….. though this after thought Indian Summer is rather enjoyable πŸ™‚

We have developed a kind of production line, with the seed being placed in the most appropriate place. Heated propagator; kitchen windowsill; unheated box room windowsill; double glazed warmer frame in greenhouse; greenhouse; sheltered spot outside and then fending for themselves. Best draw a picture – I’ll need it for the diploma anyway. πŸ™‚

  3. Your seeds will have the best start in life, and go on to give you an abundance of produce. I can feel your delight in having dirty fingers again coming down the Internet. Hooray for the Limery!

  4. Filled with envy… I’ll be trying beans and tomatoes and ceylon spinach now that the weatehr is (supposedly) getting cooler. Not much sign of that yet…

  6. Oh, what I wouldn’t give for my own Limery! But I’m rejoicing that I finally have a balcony big enough to plant things on – I’m hoping to at least have my own fresh herbs this summer πŸ˜€
